Almost eight years ago, Carl Jordan was elected to the Athens-Clarke County Commission. This was the first step in the transformation of our mayor and commission into the progressive government we have today. Carl Jordan had a vision of a government that was environmentally responsible and community oriented while also being fiscally responsible.

Today, this vision remains incomplete.  Our city budget has bloated over the past eight years, despite Carl’s repeated demands for a zero based budget  Our neighborhoods and carefully designed land use plans are threatened by regional development that remains insensitive to the problems of our small and growing county.

I am running for county commission to protect and help complete Carl's vision. Over the next few months, I plan to outline a detailed plan that, if elected, I will present to the mayor and commission which will protect our cities future. There are many problems facing our city which must be dealt with. We need our city to be both more environmentally and more fiscally responsible. We also need to take control of regional growth to ensure the integrity of our land use and transportation plans. And, we continue to need commissioners who will be responsive to the needs of the neighborhoods they represent. We can have an Athens that is wealthier, more environmentally friendly and socially just. All of this can be achieved, but it will take bold leadership.
